WHAT’S EXCITING ABOUT THE BOOK OF REVELATION.

After labouring for well over 10 months studying the book of Revelation, I am now more excited about the Word of God than ever before.

There are two major themes in this book: the revelation of Jesus Christ (Rev. 1:1, and the rest of the book); and the triumph of the Church. These two themes are correlated.

Personally, I believe that the letters to the seven churches are potentially the most important parts of the book. I believe this because through those letters, Jesus was preparing the churches for a great showdown - between the state in all its might and the church in all its fragility. So, as the One in charge of the churches, He gave them an invitation, while playing the role of a coach and showing them how to conquer.

In those letters, two things (among many) are clear:

1) It was not the chaos in the world that would be the undoing of the church, but what was tolerated within the church that would be its undoing.

2)The survival or even the triumph of the church would not be attained by seeing Jesus in the light of the situation they were in, but by seeing their situation in the light of who Jesus truly is.

Anyway, we’ve still got a long way to go, but so far so good, and it’s exciting!
